This year sees the launch of The Lightkeepers – an exciting new enterprise which will be a unique fixture in the Scottish music scene.
Singers and instrumentalists will gather for a weekend to put together great new arrangements of songs from some of Scotland’s best contemporary songwriters. There are 3 weekends to choose from throughout the first year, each of which will be based in a different part of Scotland. The weekends are stand-alone events featuring the same repertoire.
Our first year
In this first year of The Lightkeepers we’ve chosen 8 stunning songs all based around the theme of LIGHT from – amongst others – Emily Smith; Dave Frances and Mairi Campbell; Kris Drever; Gerry Rafferty; The Proclaimers. The music – sound files as well as scores – will be sent out to participants well before each event with plenty of time for home learning. This way, by being familiar with the arrangements before the big weekend, we can work together on polishing rather than basic learning.
At the end of the year we’ll invite everyone who has attended one of The Lightkeepers events to join us for another weekend which will culminate in a performance of the year’s repertoire. We’re currently liaising with the Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival team who are keen to host that performance as part of their 10 day festival.
We’re very excited by this new venture and really hope it’s something you’ll want to be part of. Register here.
